When should I complete my Door Supervisor Refresher Training?

You can complete your refresher training up to 3 years before your licence renewal is due, giving you full flexibility to train at a time that works best for you. Once completed, the qualification stays valid until you’re ready to apply for your SIA renewal.

You can apply to renew your licence with the SIA up to 4 months before it expires. Any remaining time left on your current licence will be added to your new one, so you won’t lose any validity by renewing early.

How long does the Door Supervisor Refresher Training take?

The SIA Door Supervisor Refresher course is a 3-day course. This includes the Security Emergency First Aid at Work (SEFAW) qualification, which is now mandatory, and is delivered on the first day of your course.

Your first day (for the First Aid Training) begins at 9:30am and finishes around 5:30pm, and the following days begin at 8:3oam, and finishes around 5:30pm.

Is the Refresher Training mandatory for licence renewal?

Yes. As of April 1st 2025, completing the Refresher Training is a mandatory requirement for renewing your SIA Door Supervisor licence.

What is the training experience like on the course?

What assessments are involved in the course?

The course includes:

• Multiple-choice exams covering theoretical knowledge
• Practical assessments demonstrating physical intervention skills

Can I renew my SIA licence if I have a criminal record?

Possibly. The SIA assesses each application individually, considering the nature and timing of any offences. Use the SIA’s Criminal Record Indicator to evaluate your eligibility before renewing.

What should I bring to the course?

Please bring:

• Valid photo ID (e.g, passport or driving licence)
• Proof of address (e.g, utility bill or bank statement)
• Comfortable clothing suitable for practical exercises
• Passport sized photo – please also bring a photograph of yourself, the photo must meet the passport photo guidelines.

How long will it take to recieve my results?

Results are available within 14 working days. You can then begin the process of officially applying for your licence with the SIA. You can do this without presenting your certificate as proof, providing you have the pass result of your exam.
