Frequently asked questions

Got questions? We’ve answered the most common queries about our SIA security training courses, including eligibility, booking, what to bring, and what to expect on the day.

Who is this Door Supervisor training course for?

The Door Supervisor course is designed for anyone who needs to obtain or re-obtain a SIA Door Supervisor Licence.

This includes individuals who are –

  • New to the security industry
  • Returning after your licence has expired
  • Unable to complete the required top-up training within the renewal window

This course gives you the full, up-to-date qualification required by law to apply for a SIA licence.

How do I become a licensed Door Supervisor in the UK?

To become a Door Supervisor, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work certificate
  • Complete the Level 2 Door Supervisor course with an approved training provider
  • Pass the course assessments & multiple choice exams
  • Apply for your SIA licence online and pass the identity and criminal background checks

What jobs can I do with a Door Supervisor Licence?

With a valid Door Supervisor SIA Licence, you’ll be qualified to work in licensed venues like bars, pubs, nightclubs, casinos and hotels — as well as in retail, festivals/events and other commercial & corporate settings. It is one of the most versatile licences in the private security industry.

Holding a Door Supervisor licence also covers you for Security Guard positions, giving you more flexibility and job opportunities across the sector.

Do I need first aid training before taking the Door Supervisor course?

Yes. Since April 2021, all learners must hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate (or equivalent) before starting the Door Supervisor training. This ensures you are prepared to handle emergencies on the job.

Our security training courses include the relevant Emergency First Aid at Work course as standard, delivered on the first day of your course.

How long does the Door Supervisor Training take?

The full course lasts 7 days, starting with 1 day of Emergency First Aid at Work, followed by 6 days of Door Supervisor training.

Our standard schedule typically runs from Monday to Friday, and then continues the following Monday and Tuesday. While this is our usual format, dates may vary.

How do I renew my SIA Door Supervisor Licence, and what if it has expired?

SIA licences are valid for 3 years. To renew your Door Supervisor Licence, you must complete a refresher training course, which is shorter than the full course and covers updated regulations, safety procedures and first aid.

However, if you miss the renewal window or fail to complete the refresher course in time, you’ll need to retake the full 6-day Door Supervisor training (plus 1 day of First Aid) to apply for a new licence.

It’s important to keep your licence and training up to date to avoid this.

How do I book the course?

Booking is simple — select the course that suits your schedule, click the ‘Book Course’ button, which will add your chosen course to your basket. Check out & provide payment to secure your place.

If you have any issues during the booking process or would like assistance choosing the right option, please get in touch with our friendly team — we’re happy to help!

Is the Door Supervisor course difficult to pass?

The course is suitable for anyone with a good understanding of English. It includes practical and written assessments, and our expert trainers will support you every step of the way to help you succeed.

What is the training experience like on the course?

The Door Supervisor course is designed to be practical, engaging and easy to follow. You’ll learn through a combination of interactive presentations, hands-on activities, and realistic scenario-based exercises led by experienced trainers.

This approach helps reinforce key skills and builds your confidence for real-world security roles.

What assessments are involved in the course?

The course includes:

  • Multiple-choice exams covering theoretical knowledge
  • Practical assessments demonstrating physical intervention skills

Can I get a SIA licence if I have a criminal record?

Possibly. The SIA assesses each application individually, considering the nature and timing of any offences. Use the SIA’s Criminal Record Indicator to evaluate your eligibility before taking the course.

What should I bring to the course?

Please bring:

  • Valid photo ID (e.g, passport or driving licence)
  • Proof of address (e.g, utility bill or bank statement)
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for practical exercises
  • Passport sized photo please also bring a photograph of yourself, the photo must meet the passport photo guidelines.

How long will it take to recieve my results?

Results are available within 14 working days. You can then begin the process of officially applying for your licence with the SIA. You can do this without presenting your certificate as proof, providing you have the pass result of your exam.
